Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro has been named the “Business of the Month” for February by the Winnsboro-Franklin Chamber of Commerce.
“We are certainly pleased to be recognized by the Chamber for this honor,” said owner Craig Gill, who is also a past Chamber president. “Like the Chamber, we’ve worked hard to build a reputation of commitment to our community, as well as to the families we serve.”
Gill noted that as a local owned and operated business, he understands the importance of providing caring, compassionate service to the community.
“We’ve always believed that it’s important to understand and appreciate our local traditions and to serve each family individually, personally and compassionately,” Gill said. “We’ve worked hard to build that reputation of commitment to the families we serve by providing the highest level of care during the most difficult of times.”
Gill First National Funeral Home has long been located at 6637 Main Street in the downtown area of Winnsboro. The funeral home is housed in one of the oldest buildings still in use downtown, which was originally constructed in the early 1920’s and known as the E. A. Cordill home.
Following World War II, the structure was purchased by First National Insurance Company and opened as Winnsboro First National Funeral Home, one of some 30 funeral homes in a national chain. When the insurance company later sold, the funeral homes were sold as well, and this location became independently owned and remained Winnsboro First National Funeral Home.
Over these many years, the First National name has become very recognizable to the people of Franklin Parish and the surrounding area. For that reason, the First National name remained when the business became Gill First National Funeral Home in 2001.
Staff members of Gill First National Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions.
“These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors,” Gill said. “These are important to the families we serve, and they are important to us.”
Staff members include Craig Gill, Rev. Paul Perry, Pebbles Guimbellot, Arbazine Bardin, Helen Luckett, Amber Powers, Pat Shivers, Shirley Taliaferro, and Lavelle Williamson.
“Franklin Parish is our home, and we strongly feel an obligation to do our part in making home a better place to live,” Gill said. “For that reason, our staff contributes through our participation in local activities, and we hope that our involvement will help make a difference down the road in the way of life of this parish.”
